![]() ![]() ![]() Warning DMZ is a way to set all your ports open and that is dangerous as your pretty much letting anyone in the front door DMZ is not recommended. some routers also force to cycle the ips they give you if so just check your ip and switch your open ports to it. But you shouldnt live your life in fear.Ĭareful with setting your router, your router might have 2 static ip choices if you use dhcp you dont change that to static if the router states that, you want to keep the ip the router gives you like he said 192.x.x.x or 10.x.x.x on some routers. And people are constantly telling you to protect yourself for a reason. I understand that the internet can be a dangerous place and it is. normally people dont want to take your "files" and you should always check for fraud\id theft\account theft\scam everywhere as most of the time people who arent tech savvy will go for that. although most of the time simple folk only have to worry about being botnetted or spam. And in the same sense a seasoned programmer may not see that he is being blocked by something as simple as a router and move on. even if you have tons of firewalls or peerblock and all kinds of ports blocked and massive updates and pass a ShieldsUP test (there are plenty of more cooler security tests) and keep upto date with zero-days at packetstormsecurity and hide in the darkweb, There is still that possibility that any scripter can get a bunch of packages and NMAP you and your theirs easily. There are many tools to check yourself and even then you are not protected fully. You can also accept only IPs you know or block intrusive IPs. On the internet you are always in "danger" but there are plenty of tools and ways to protect yourself. You should not be afraid of the internet but you should be knowledgeable about it. ![]() The game uses Unreal engine 3, Most games using unreal engine 3 games use these ports. maybe someone with IT or Hosting game servers and netwonking experience could chime in. the way i understand it, unless you pay for a Static-IP, i think the modem and router would still receive Dynamic-IP so port forwarding would never remain in affect.?. Have no clue why your game seems to perform better with those ports opened. if your ISP comms only Dynamic IP, you would need to rent business class level connection to optain a static IP so you can port forward. I have never done any port-forward for anything ever, so i am not sure about the info i just got from the net.īut, i believe you can port forward from your PC to your ISP if you have a Static IP address. ![]()
